Nantahala Kids Club

Cost: $25 for existing NRC members, $50 for new members, multiple-child discounts available
Age: 7 to 17

NKC is a six-week program designed to get kids active and engaged in the outdoors through introduction to paddle sports. The focus is on learning basic whitewater safety skills, and building a supportive community of strong, confident, healthy kids. Participants are encouraged to advance at their own pace, while coaches provide individualized instruction and lead group games and exercises.

Program Details

Skills: Participants learn basic kayak skills, beginning with learning how to get out of the boat, forward and turning strokes, and build familiarity with maneuvering a kayak in flat and moving water.
Prerequisites: No experience is necessary, beginner through intermediate ability levels are welcome.
Equipment: Equipment is available for loan with no additional charge.
Discounts: $25 off for: each additional child, existing NRC members, 2016 NKC Fall Session participants

Registration

Pre-registration: Online Registration Form  (Opens Jan 26th)
Registration closes: Wednesday, April 13 for the Spring Session. NKC registration is limited to 25 participants. Please e-mail Nantahalaracingclub@gmail.com to inquire about a waitlist or extra spots in the program.
Parent/Guardian:
All participants must submit a ACA Minor Waiver signed by a parent/guardian.

Equipment

NKC has a full array of gear available for use by participants at no additional charge.
Equipment includes:

  • Boat (recreational and slalom boats available)
  • Paddle
  • PFD (commonly called a life jacket)
  • Helmet
  • Spray skirt
  • Paddle Jacket

Participants are responsible for providing their own swimming clothes, shoes, and thermal gear.

Little Tennessee Takeout – From the Hwy 74/28/Needmore Rd Junction, turn onto Needmore Rd. After approximately one mile, take a left following a sharp curve just as the road meets the river for the first time. Drive down a steep dirt drive to the parking area.

Courthouse, Bryson City – Take Bryson City exit 67 and turn into town on Veteran’s Blvd. Stay straight at the first light, then left across the bridge onto Slope St. Take the first right onto Mitchell St., and a right into the courthouse parking lot.
